Locksmith 101: The ins and outs of hiring a locksmith

When looking for a reputable locksmith online, it can be difficult to know if you’re getting good value for money, and making multiple inquiries can be arduous.

Many locksmiths advertise free or low-cost services only to sting you after the job is complete. Here at John Barnes, we believe in transparency while providing our customers with a level of customer service and workmanship that demonstrates why we are the secure solution.

So, let’s take a look at some of the most frequently asked questions about locksmithing:

How much does a locksmith cost?

Without knowing the requirements of the job, it can be tough to give a rough estimate of costs.
However, all jobs attended to by our service technicians incur a service fee ranging from $77.00 – $220.00 depending on the urgency and location of the job.

In addition to the service fee, labour is charged at an hourly rate, and all products used require payment.

If a site survey is required, our team will attend at no cost and go over exactly what you require. Following that, a complimentary quote can be provided before you decide whether or not to proceed with the work.

Can a locksmith make a key from a lock?

Yes we can!
If you have lost or broken your last key we can still cut new keys with just the lock. You can bring it to our workshop or any of our service technicians can come to you. However, if you have lost all your keys we highly recommend in rekeying your premises for security purposes.

We can also rekey locks to match other locks so that you only need one key rather than a whole keyring full!

Can a locksmith open a locked door?

Yes!
There a few ways our locksmiths can open a locked door (also known as gaining entry) and picking locks is one of them.

Do locksmiths replace door handles?

Yes!
From broken door handles to broken keys our locksmiths can replace them.
With access to a large range of door handles, security screen door locks, glass door locks, and even window locks there is no shortage of situations we assist with.
